Interacting with Your Sphere of Influence

Many of us have heard the phrase, ‘Sphere of Influence’. However, how many of us actually focus on it daily and utilize it to its fullest? The answer is: not enough of us. Our team is here to help you kick your sphere into gear. First let’s get an idea of what a ‘sphere of influence’ really is. Sphere of influence, by definition, is: a field or area in which an individual or organization has power to affect events and developments. In basic terms, your sphere of influence is your family,  friends, business partners, work colleagues, and those you meet socially. It is typically used to attract business from those you know and the people you meet. Having a strong and growing sphere of influence is important to strengthen your reputation and credibility. We have listed three ways for you to increase your influence:


Join networking groups, clubs, groups – these do not have to only be business related groups. Becoming involved in community groups, fitness clubs, book clubs, or parenting groups are very effective. Being a member of these groups allows you to build relationships with others and expand your network. Furthermore, expanding your network will allow you to increase your potential client base.

Take on Leadership Roles

Putting yourself in a leadership position allows you to exercise your people skills. This also allows you to create deeper relationships with others, therefore building trust with them. Building trust with your network is extremely powerful and, if maintained, can be very useful in the future.

Effectively Use Social Media

Social media is one of the most powerful marketing tools in the game right now. If you are not currently using social media platforms to market yourself, it is time to start. Dust those cobwebs off of your LinkedIn account and get to work! Start with making sure your social platforms are up to date with your current business and organizational roles. Then begin interacting with your existing network; like their posts on Instagram, endorse their skills on LinkedIn, or wish them a ‘Happy Birthday’ on Facebook. Continue to do their daily. Then begin adding others to your social network and following. Add people who are in your same industry. Add those who are involved in industries that you have interest in. This is a great way to increase your sphere of influence all around the country, and even the world.

Sphere of influence is one of the most powerful tools in your business toolbox. However, it must be utilized, and protected – never neglect your sphere. Whether you are a recent college graduate with a minimal sphere, and a Wall Street baller with more sphere than you know what to do with, you can always increase and better it. This week, use the above tips to work on increasing your sphere of influence.




At Metrix we teach “frequency over content” when it comes to interacting with your sphere.  Too often I’ll find agent peers of mine stressing over what direct message to send or what content should go in their next mailer.  Don’t worry about this…just send it! But send, call, text, write, etc. frequently. Your goal: when they think real estate, they think about you!  The only way this occurs is if you interact with your SOI in some way, shape, or form every three or so weeks.
