Giving Back this Holiday Season

This week’s blog was curated by Metrix’s Director of Client Care, Katelyn Saunders.

During the [fast approaching] holiday season many of us are very fortunate to be surrounded by loved ones, feast on endless amounts of turkey and mashed potatoes, attend holiday parties, participate in gift exchanges, and more! It truly is a magical time of the year.

This year we want to encourage you to share this joy and ‘magic’ with those who are less fortunate. Additionally, this is a great opportunity for you, as a business owner or leader, to increase team culture and camaraderie. We have put together a few ways that you and your team can give back and make an impact in your own communities this holiday season.

A simple, yet impactful way to give back to your community is to host a food drive! Connect with a local food bank to organize a food drive and enroll your team to contribute! A fun way to get your team involved is to set a team goal of how many total food items can be collected! Or maybe have your team members compete against one another and see who can collect the most!

Another fun drive that you can participate in is: Toys for Tots! The name itself says it all! Throughout October, November, and the first couple of weeks in December encourage your team to donate new, unwrapped toys for children in need. Place a Toys for Tots box (or any other box) in your office, fill it up with toys, and then drop the box off at a local ‘Toy Drop Site Location’ by the December deadline. The toys that you and your team collect will be distributed to children in your very own community! Click here to find your local Toys for Tots campaign.

Ronald McDonald House Charities helps millions of families with sick children by providing comfort and support during times of need. RMHC welcomes volunteers to contribute to the cause by cooking, hosting, listening and giving support to the RMHC families. This is a great opportunity for your team to come together and give back. In fact, you are not limited to the holiday season; you can volunteer any time of the year! Being that RMHC operates in more than 64 countries and regions around the world, it is likely that you have one in your own backyard! Click here to find a local chapter and find out how you and your team can help!

Another great way to find out what is going on in your community is to reach out to your own religious or community centers and see what drives or opportunities they have coming up that you and your team can be a part of! Most religious and community centers are involved in a number of food drives or other volunteer opportunities.

These are just a few examples of ways that you and your team can give back to your local communities this holiday season! We hope that we have inspired you to take action and share the ‘magic’ this holiday season!
